What do I need for air travel when I only have a temporary driver’s license with no picture?

lululani asked:
I just moved and went to get my new driver’s license. They issued me a temporary certificate that doesn’t have a picture and said it will be 3-6 weeks for the permanent one to be mailed to me. I travel in 3 weeks for my brother’s wedding. I don’t have a passport or other government issued photo id. What can I do?

their first question will be “why donĀ“t you have a passport?”
in case you stay in the U.S.A. you might have a little chance to get thru the security and on the plane but I guess not
in case you have to travel international, no chance without a passport !
try to get an temporary passport

Does it state anywhere on the temporary id
“Real ID Extension” ?
Do you have your old drivers license - some states you do have to turn that in.
Any other photo ID you can provide ?

The best thing you could do is get just a photo id from the dmv…or you could go get a passport! Can be pricey but if you need it bad enough then I suggest you to definetly go get it!! Good Luck!!

I’d call the airline you are flying on and talk to them about what you will need to make your flight. Do NOT go by what you are told here (not even by me) as airlines change their rules quite frequently and it is your job to find an answer before you show up at the airport.
That being said-
It’s doubtful you’ll be able to get a passport in 3 weeks howver, most DMVs also offer an official State ID in addition to the State Drivers License. Perhaps you can get a State Photo ID to tide you over for your trip.

Do you have a military dependent card? Do you have a school ID with a picture on it? Do you have your birth certificate? Do you have your old drivers license from the other state, and has it expired?
Call the airline that you will be flying with and tell them your situation. Ask them if you could bring and of the following as Identification.
Good Luck
