I’m looking at vacation packages for my honeymoon. How far in advance should I book it to get the best price?

The best prices are when you go during off seasons. Check with a travel agent and they can let you know when those seasons are.
A lot of people do not like going through travel agents as they think it will cost way too much if they do but when they try to book their trips they pay way more than they should.
A travel agent or airlines can book you an air/hotel/rental car combo for a good price.
Southwest airlines has vacation packages too. Also, I go on expedia.com and put in different dates to see if prices will be different. Sometimes it doesn’t change as the price discounts are sometimes affected by “when” you buy your trip not by when you are “going”.
My travel agent got me a better deal to Vegas for air/hotel/car rental than going through the Southwest Airlines vacation packages. Just do a little research. Also the travel agents’ costs are not as expensive as you would think.
Hope this helps.

To get the cheapest price…6 months ahead or more. I always book my vacations far ahead like this and I’m always getting their lowest prices. However, I heard of that 1 yr ahead also but it’s just excruciating to wait for that moment. 6 months ahead could do well to get that fair price.

Off season will get you the best rate at the resort but watch out for the weather in off season. The earlier you book the flight the less it tends to cost. A travel agent will get you the best deal possible.

Prices change constantly. One could tell you to reserve far ahead. But, business predicts early on how much demand they will have and price accordingly.
If they predicted too high, then they’ll lower the prices in an attempt to raise demand. Sometimes they’ll see this too late, and drop the price dramatically at the last minute.
If they predicted demand would be low, and it comes in much stronger, than the early reservation benefited you. Prices will be raised to slow down the demand while still attempting to get near 100% capacity.
I’d say both Hawaii and Jamaica are great destinations. However, with just 5 days I think you may just get over the jet lag and stress of getting there before it’s time to pack up and go home. Five days is good for a local trip. I’d count on at least 9 days for either of the destinations you’re interested in.

First off congrats on your engagement!
It is best to book in advance for the best rates as they do go off availability. As one poster said if you wait, then they will lower rates to increase the demand. This holds true about a year ago, but the airlines are starting gradually to cut “Last Min. Deals” due to well they never anticipated how many consumers would wait so when they would put things on last min. discount, they were actually paying to fly people out there let alone turn a profit. So many people last year waited on there winter vacation for that last min. deal and I will say many did not go anywhere. The airlines are doing this in hopes to start rewarding those that book in advance. Unless of course it is a medical or bereavement fare, which is someone you can’t plan in advance.
Between Hawaii & Jamaica they are both amazing places, but one might be more for you over the other. I highly suggest contacting a travel specialist who can assist you in picking the right destination, property all in trying to stay within your budget as well. Depending on where in the world it is you are located would also determine as far as doing 5 days.
In answer though to about how far out, I would say don’t book a year out not unless it is a cruise or over prime holidays such as Christmas or New Years. I would suggest about 5 - 8 months prior. You can of course put together something 2 months prior but doesn’t mean the rates will be good if the availability is just not there.
Best of Luck to you! Remember you will need a valid passport for Jamaica.
